active sync repair

have you tried looking for it in add/remove and removing it?  short of that 
go on a search and distroy mission for active sync on your system and see if 
you can then run the setup program.  You might also have a corrupt setup 
file.  have you tried downloading it from the whizzes at ms?

yes and i don't have anything like that installed on this system.
looks like the only to fix this problem is going to be a reformat of
the hard drive and re-install windows.
