Hi Dean, if your phone acts the same way that my N82 does, then pressing the
number key to the right of 0 will toggle you through the different modes, IE
number and alpha numeric.
It sounds like based on your second question that you are using Mobile
Speak, in which case there is an option in MobileSpeak's configuration under
whatever profile you are using, to turn off the shortcut keys so you can get
to your speed dials.

Subject: basic MobileSp[eak and N75 questions
I'm struggling a bit with this new phone, and just learning things about
phones that for many others are now common knowledge. Thanks to tips from
this list and from the manuals, I have made some progress, but I'm going to
ask some questions here to try to speed things along. I'm using an
At&t-branded phone, and have active idle turned off.
1. I try to create an address book entry, and when I get to the name fields
to complete, the keypad keys give me nothing and simply sounds numbers. I
assume that, when prompted for "first name" one simply types it in. I can't
seem to do so. Perhaps this is related to the fact that I am occasionally
told I am in number mode, though I can't remember when I am told that, and
don't know how to get out of it. What to do?
2. One has a choice when long-pressing the keypad keys, right? Either
speed dial, or different functions. Long-pressing 3 brings up messaging.
My
Speed dial is on, but the functions seem to overwrite it. I assigned 7 to a
contact, but it doesn't dial it. How do you turn off these functions from
being assigned to keypad keys, or, alternatively, can their assignments be
left on and changed?
3. The phone periodically bursts into speech. These utterances are always
preceded with the word "playing" followed by the name of the active profile
and some numbers which are mostly meaningless. Can I stop this from
happening?
If I get pointers on these questions, I'll be moving forward.
Thanks.
Dean
