Randy,

The internal GPS reciever built-in the Nokia N82 does the same exact thing
that an external GPS reciever would do except for it is internal. There are
pros and cons to the particular receiver that is built-in the Nokia N82. The
pro is that it isn't required to carry an external GPS receiver, which
means that you only have one device when using GPS on your Nokia N82. The
con is that the built-in GPS reciever consumes a fair amount of battery
life and the particular chipset that is being used is a Sirf Star II which
is a very good chipset but an older one and one can use an external GPS
receiver with the Sirf Star III or MTK chipset, which has a longer battery
life and better overall performance.

Subject: N82 Built in GPS Receiver

Hello List,

I've been a little confused about how the GPS process works with phones
such as the N82. Could someone give a brief overview? In particular the
following is a part of my confusion:

I've noted that for using the GPS options a GPS receiver is recommended
separate from the internal GPS. What does that internal GPS do?

Be Well,
Randy
