As long as you have a broad band you can use this product to call anywhere in the US. and Canada free. Well, not exactly free. It does cost 19 dollars a year. You can get rid of your land line. You must still keep up your DSL or cable broad band, as that is how the Magic Jack runs. It resembles a regular telephone jack. You plug one end of the Magic Jack in to your telephone, and the other in to your USB port. You can then use your regular telephone. You don't have to use the soft phone which appears on the computer. You may use cordless phones as well. When you receive your Magic Jack, and you register with the company using your e-mail address and your pass word you are given a choice of city and area code. When this choice is made the Magic Jack will provide you with a phone number for life. You can take the Magic Jack with you while traveling or if you choose to move and retain the same telephone number. If you send an international friend a Magic Jack and they choose a U.S. telephone number calls between you and them are free as well. With the Magic Jack activation you get call waiting, call forwarding, free directory assistance caller id and 911 support. Vonage has the same sort of technology however, it costs per month to use their service. Other blind folks have used this product and can well use it with their screen readers. I can not speak highly enough of this product. I am using it now. Those with whom I speak while using it say the calls between us are as clear as though I were using a regular land line. For further information you may go up to the Magic Jack web site.

and get answers to questions I failed to address in this e-mail. There is a good article comparing the differences between skype and Magic Jack.
