Virgie, from what the disabilities center at A T and T told me, I could not
order service plus the phone through them, but that I would first have to
get the phone with contract from a store, then ship it to them for the
screen reader install. It seems unlike when it was Cingular where one went
through the disabilities center to do everything. I'm glad I waited, though,
since, hopefully, the newer phones with Mobile Speak are better than the
6620 with basic Talks, but a couple of times in 06, when I called to try to
order under the old system, I was continually told that the phone supported,
the 6620, was out of stock, and to call back.
Thanks, Kevin, for pointing out that the Q was available through Verizon. I
did already know that but that fact confuses me, as, since Verizon runs on
CDMA and A T and T runs on GSM, the Q one can get from Verizon versus the
one from A T and T must be somewhat different. Also, as I have said, never
having done this before, I would need someone to demonstrate for me
installing Mobile Speak on any phone I get. I probably can get a Q from
Verizon for less as an existing customer than from A T and T, so the overall
cost difference might not be that great.
