Suggestion of Phone on Verizon's CDMA Network

Hello all, 
 
I along  with many others or more familiar with the GSM network and the
available phones. I am someone who started with a symbian-based   phone with
Talks and  don't think that i will ever switch from this particular option
as there is something very nice and intuitive about Talks and Symbian
phones. 
 
I was approached by a  friend who is on the Verizon Wireless CDMA network
and is looking  for a  phone that is very basic and that has a standard
phone keypad that will work with Mobile Speaks. He isn't exactly looking for
all the bells and whistles, just a phone that will get the job done and one
that will work with Mobile Speaks so he can  have spoken information about
what is on the phone screen. The one thing that he is wanting to do which I
don't believe the standard off the shelf talking phones can provide is text
message. 
 
I would appreciate any and all suggestions.
