Part1.
I purchased my n95-3 in January, and installed Talks first thing. After
that, I called Vision cue for the thirty day demo.
I placed a dymo tape strip just below the joystick, with a dot at the Talks
and backspace end.
I then setup a profile, shortcut keys on the standby screen, and made a few
adjustments in the pronunciation dictionary.
I also setup email, paired a few bluetooth devices, saved at least 20
streaming radio stations to the gallery, and installed Wayfinder access
along with a few smaller programs. I had a case for it within a week of
purchase.
Part2.
Nearly 27 days into my thirty day demo, I decided to go ahead and purchase
Talks because it was a Friday. It was a short time after entering my
purchased registration code that I learned of a serious problem with my
screen. (mid February)
I know for a fact that the phone was not dropped, bumped, or even scrached.
But somehow or other, the screen was damaged from the underside. No
scratches could be felt by anyone, but it looked as though it had been hit
with a rock or something. like some sort of blotchy thing with spokes
coming from it.
After backing up the phone through PC suite, I sent it to Dynamism, where I
purchased it. They in turn sent it to a Nokia service center.
After about a week, Dynamism sent me a repair estimate from the Nokia repair
center.
Naturally I was concerned because I thought the phone was still under
warranty, but I was told that Nokia doesn't consider anything having to do
with the screen warrantable? I decided to pay the cost this once, only
because although Talks and the phone work flawlessly I never know when I
might need someone to see something on the screen for me. Besides, If I'd
wanted a screenless phone I'd have bought the Oasis 22C.
Part3.
After agreeing to pay for the repair, and waiting nearly ten days, I called
Dynamism to get repair status. I was told that the repair center was
waiting for a part, thus the holdup.
Nearly ten days after that, the email came from
Dynamism asking where to send the phone, I received it two days later,
(april 3) in a feddex box.
There was absolutely no paperwork in the box, just the phone wrapped in
bubblewrap.
Part4.
The first thing I did after unwrapping the phone was examine it and turn it
on to see If I needed to reinstall Talks. Surprise, I didn't. In fact, I
didn't need to reinstall anything but the symcard and memcard. All other
previously installed programs and settings were in tact. I only had to redo
my profile and standby shortcuts.
I had a few anxious hours because they didn't send the defective part with
the phone, and since the phone performed and felt the same as it did when I
sent it away,I had no way of knowing whether or not the screen had really
been repaired.
It has been seen by three fully sighted people, and they all say they're
able to see what I'm able to hear with a headset. (grin)
In other words, it looks just fine.
I'm not sure what the moral of this story should be, but I'm having someone
look at my screen at least once a week.
