Hello. Actually, you do not need to create a Bluetooth partnership between
the Motorola Q9H and the Braille device in Start > Settings > Connections >
Bluetooth, so please delete it if you have. Then follow these steps to get
the BrailleConnect working with Mobile Speak Smartphone on your Motorola
Q9H:
1. Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and that the
BrailleConnect is turned on.
2. Open the MSS Control Panel either using the command Home+1 or by
selecting the Mobile Speak Smartphone shortcut in the Today screen or Start
menu.
3. Navigate to the Device Manager shortcut and press Enter to open it.
4. Open the Menu with the right softkey and press Enter on "Add new device".
5. When asked which type of device you would like to add, select "HumanWare
BrailleConnect" and hit the right softkey to continue.
6. When asked how Device Manager should search for your external device,
select the second radio button: "I don't know what external device to
connect to, and I would like to search for it". Press the right softkey to
continue.
7. The phone will now search for Bluetooth devices in range and present them
in a list. This will take a few seconds.
8. When the list of nearby Bluetooth devices is displayed, select the
BrailleConnect and hit the right softkey to proceed. You will be returned to
the main screen of Device Manager where the BrailleConnect will be listed.
9. Open the Menu with the right softkey and press enter on "Connect". Now
this is the step that is different and happens so far with the Motorola Q9
models only when pairing a Braille device. You will be asked for the
Bluetooth passkey. By default, this would be 1234, but if that doesn't work,
please refer to the documentation that came with your BrailleConnect as this
passkey is not determined by Mobile Speak Smartphone. I believe you press
the left softkey after typing the passkey to complete the pairing.
10. The connection between your phone and BrailleConnect will be established
and Braille will be activated. MSS will say, "Braille ready!" and display
this on the BrailleConnect as well. You should now be able to view the
screen contents in Braille output and enter text with the BrailleConnect's
keyboard, using contracted (Grade 2) or uncontracted (Grade 1) literary
Braille, as well as 6-dot or 8-dot computer Braille. Either use Home+long
pres 1 to toggle Braille on/off, or the Connect/Disconnect option in the
Menu of Device manager. You should not be asked to enter the passkey again
the next time you activate Braille.

If you have other questions, feel free to write to me directly.

Subject: Braille and the Motorola Q 9H

Hello,

I recently upgraded to a Motorola Q 9H. I am trying to pair the phone with a
BrailleConnect 12, but it seems I can't do this since the serial port
profile is disabled on the Q. Is there something I'm missing? I know the Q
doesn't work with the BrailleNote,
but I thought it would work with other displays.

Thanks,

Angie
